City speed painting/ sketch 2-3 hrs

So if you like it check back later for a finished version!!! that will be 10x better.

This will serve as a reference for me when I find time to fully realize and flesh out this concept.
when that happens i will start over from scratch and make improvements on design. It will contain no photo scrap cause i am not aiming for photo real.

Im designing a few different cities that will be in the same world. This one contains the market I did a few weeks ago.
Its a giant modern metropolis by the sea. it will have distinct districts spread across a tropical archipelago connected by sky/tram rails.

If Singapore was half this good (for starters without the kind of people currently running the country) I might like where I live. But I can dream on.

Aghh!!!! I drew a city for my portfolio a few months ago and I've been unable to find the source. The center yellow building with the red roof, do you know the name of the place where you got it from?

Excellent! I can really feel the perspective.. especially the view that you put the city with the train its really nice. Just wondering why the beach looks somewhat rusty/dirty.

this was kinda a speedpainting took 5 hrs though. heres a look at my basic process for 75% of pictures.

Heres what you want to aim for and in a successful order.

First get the composition figured out. then with color or b&w block in major value areas. then using color layer modes block in all local colors. then use multiply and overlay layer types to get highlights and shadows. then use any remaing time to clean up and render.

I <3 this!!! it's so pretty! I'm so happy you're using bright colors more ofter in your work~ the sky is gorgeous, the buildings are awesome and the composition is perfect! I want to go here... it's beautiful; even if you don't bring it to a finish, it's beautiful. I did a little painting this morning and i want you to know you're my new color inspiration. if my pieces aren't as luminous as yours, I'm in trouble! I think i might overhaul my koi mermaid and make it better after i finish my other pieces... what do you think?

I love the detail and effort you put into this. The atmosphere is fantastic, being a balance of realistic and futuristic elements complete with fresh air.

I'd like to learn how you produce this sort of work! Might I ask if you have any pointers to beginning speed-painting?

It just gets better and better. Keep it up!

Thanks for the tips!

But another question: what methods and settings would you use for the actual painting part (brushing in, etc) of speed-painting? How do you get your composition to be so precise and yet at the same time brush-like?

Oh forgot to mention,
I fav'd this one in particular because its more painterly, which makes this much more interesting than just a matte paint.

Niiice dude, you're on a bit of a roll recently. Nice color in this one, as well as enough detail to imply more than what's really there. I like how this one is a continuation of that market pic, that was a seriously great artwork, so its nice to see some grounds.

I keep faving your work recently man, you're gettin' a lot better ever since school got out heheheh.

thanks a lot! Yeah that's definitely a good decision I made recently not to go with the photo real style of rendering things. I want to make them more illustrative, believable, and creative. When I get some time Ill concept out some characters and then through them into finished illustrations.

Aw come on dude, you gotta crop out a small little area. Like see my picture? Thats one of the expressions I did from my 25 expression sheet.
Crop it, apply sharpening, its simple! XD

Then last illustration i did. I cropped out the small girls face. Flattened it. did everything i knew to make the file size small but couldn't get it lower than 17kb and make it visible. ill try again in the future.
